Santa Fe Spirits, Santa
Fe’s own micro distillery has added a brand new member to its team. John
Jeffrey will be taking over in the Mallard Way distillery, producing Santa Fe’s
own artisanal hand-crafted spirits, ranging from their Calvados Style Apple
Brandy to their Colkegan Mesquite Smoked Single Malt Whiskey.
Hailing most recently from Middleton, Wisconsin, John got his official start in the spirits industry
while completing his master’s degree in Food Chemistry at Michigan State
University. During this time, John was head of R&D for the Artisan
Distilled Spirits Program where he designed and produced spirits for more than
fifteen start-up companies.
Upon the completion of his master’s degree, John became the head distiller at Death’s Door Spirits in Middleton, where he
oversaw the design and build of the distillery itself, while also running the
production of over 50,000 cases of spirits. John continues to help craft
distilleries all over the country on a consulting basis.
Santa Fe Spirits owner,
Colin Keegan, as well as his team and incredibly excited to welcome John on
board and are looking forward to the unique perspective and experience that he
brings to the Santa Fe Spirits Distillery. John will be helped in his work by
another new face, Noya Gilmore, and Santa Fe native and UNM graduate, who has
taken over the role of Assistant Distiller.
John has now been with
Santa Fe Spirits for three months and was recently joined by his wife and two
kids, who are enjoying finding out what life in Santa Fe is all about.
